Rest and Relax but don’t miss out!

Rest and Relax but don’t miss out!

This layout was inspired by a layout made by my friend Jennifer Smith.  You can check her layout here.  The file for this does not open but I created my own and will share at the end.  Using the Make Waves Workshop Your Way, this is the first of three layouts I’m creating using the CTMH Cricut Cartridges, especially You Are Here.

This is done with the Make Waves Workshop Your Way plus some extra cardstock – Bashful, Pacifica, Charcoal, Vellum, Black, Willow, Emerald, Espresso, Lemon, and Glacier.  I used Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels to create the splatter effect on the papers.  You can make your own mist with our bottles which normally I do when I don’t want it to be shimmery.  I’ve run out of the pearl paint we used to sell to make it all shimmery and have yet to find a good replacement for it.  Any suggestions?

Here are some close ups of different elements:

Love the layers in here between the all the elements.  The clear Shimmer Brush adds some fun to the angel fish.  The eyes are done with Black Pearl Paint.

The Make Waves Shimmer trim is just amazing.  There are three different shades of the tropical blue-greens you see in the oceans down around Florida.  Use a piercing tool to put the crease the palm trees and ink to distress those edges  so they show up.  Such a simple way to give dimension to the leaves.

Scalloped Shells are made with Bashful and Pixie Cardstock (both on sale right now).  Shadowing in them is from the Bashful Shimmer Brush.   What I did not have pictures of is the added bling put on after the layouts were photographed.  I put the Bashful Pearls on the shells and used several of the  glitter gems from the Make Waves Sequins and Gems collection all through the layout.  It was the perfect finishing touch.

Design Space File: https://design.cricut.com/#/design/83770608

Note on this.  I create my layouts with all the cuts.  I don’t cut the square and rectangle pieces because I can cut them more economically with a straight edge cutter.  Just hide the pieces you don’t want to cut.

Star Cards

Star Cards

Check out these awesome star cards!  Just love them.   They have been popping up all over the boards so I just had to try and make them.  The inspiration for them comes from this YouTube video:

I did the template version and then hopped over to Design Space to create a cutting file for this.  Probably will add one of these cards to the Card Buffet so I need it to be able to cut fast.  In addition, I made it so it will fit in an A5 envelope for convenience sake.  The first card is made with Chelsea Gardens Paper Pack and the Chelsea Garden Cardmaking Stamp Set.  Beautiful.  All the stamping is done on vellum and heat embossed with silver.  Use the Shin Han Touch markers to color the vellum pieces.

The second card is made with the Gimme Some Sugar Paper Pack.   The coffee cups and sentiment are cut from the Cricut so there is no stamping on this card.  Gimme Some Sugar looks wonderful with the kraft papers.

I’ll come back and do a longer post on the hows.  The cards were so fun and easy once in Design Space I just had to share.

February things to keep in mind:

Thanks for stopping by to checkout my creative world.  Truly a fun card, this star card is sure to wow your friends.  Be sure to catch the next card buffets because there will be only 10 cards!   If you need some creative help,  I’m here to help you out – give me a call or email me: info@lindacreates.com!!

Good Days Start with Coffee

Good Days Start with Coffee

I had a fun time making this card.  Been in a shaker cardmaking mode for a bit and this was great fun to use the coffee beans in the shaker with various toppings from Queen and Company.   Another card for the Summer Coffee Lover’s Bloghop.

I used Stamplorations coffee mug to cut out the center of the shaker from No Worries paper from CTMH.  Sapphire is the background cardstock (25% off this month).  Cut transparency out  and put on the back of the paper creating the window.  For the coffee beans to work, you need to double layer 3D foam tape.  Create a box on the Sapphire cardstock and add your shaker fillings in.

Mount the top of the card on the 3D foam tape.  Stamp the sentiment from My Favorite Things – LLD Perk Up in Sapphire on Lagoon paper.  Cut out the  “and you”.    Put the sentiments as shown.

Some of the beans are a little big and don’t shake around very well.  Love the brown and blue combination.  The card smells amazing with the coffee beans in it.  =)

Sending Hugs Shaker Card

Sending Hugs Shaker Card:

Shaker cards are really a lot of fun.  This balloon card is sending some hugs to someone who needs them.  The shaker elements is the “extra special” part of the card.  I used Georgie paper that had in my stash.  I’m working on using my stash right now to make room for the New Seasonal Expressions that will be launched very very soon.  =)

I used Jillibean’s shaker cup, card base, and dies to create the shaker.  The insides of the shaker are from Queen and Company.  All other materials are CTMH.  The cardstock colors are Juniper, Slate, and Crystal Blue.  The ribbon is from the Enchantment Ribbon Collection.  All the stamping is done in Juniper Ink which is still one of my favorite colors.

There is a back panel behind the shaker cup.  I stamped “hugs enclosed” on it before sealing the cup, then you adhere the paper panel to the back of the front of the card so the cup comes through the hole in the card.  I stood the card up for taking the picture so you could see it.  On the inside, I stamped “to brighten your day”.

SSS Wednesday Challenge One Layer

It’s been ages since I made a one layer card so this is a good challenge from Simon Says Stamps Wednesday Challenge.  When was the last time I created a one layer card, LOL?   I created this card:

SSS Wed 1 Layer Card

The challenge was a one layer so I took some painters tape and gently put it down so it would come off without ripping the paper. Doing this was inspired by two of the samples (Heather and Jenn’s) posted on the SSS Wednesday blog,    I took some Tim Holtz distressing inks, sponges, and created the ombre background.

Masking pic wm

Using black Memento ink, I used the super cute stamp set CTMH has designed for the raising money($7.00 of every set purchased, is donated to Operation Smile) this month for Operation Smile “Sharing the Love” CC1060, to stamp the camera, dialog box, and a sentiment.

1602-cc-share-the-love-us

I stamped them over the background, working diagonally across the card, opposite of the background diagonal. The camera is centered.

SSS wed 1 layer c wm

I used one of my favorite embellishments, Purple Enameled and Glitter Heart Duos, taking one of the glitter hearts to add a little bling to the heart on the camera.

SSS wed challenge d wm

I had a blank corner (not necessarily a bad thing but it was not looking balanced to me) so I added the sentiment in the corner:

This was a fun card to do and reminds me that simple, as in one layer,  is often best and it looks great!  Thanks for stopping by!

Technique Tuesday – Masking!

Here’s a card I made using the Masking Technique along with some challenges. I did this a while back but forgot to post it.  Here’s the card:

MM421 wm

Here are the challenges:

SIP-Color-Challenge-20-800 Mojo421

The base of the card is made from using the Chocolate paper from the Fundamental Basic Paper pack.  Here is where I used the masking technique to make the leaves look like they come out from behind the rose:

MM421 c wm

On a side note, I used a gold pen to do some dots in the center of the rose and liquid glass along the white highlights to make them pop a bit.  Here are some directions for masking are here.  You can download the picture on masking and reference when you need to do it.

Masking Complete Collage

Some more fun with this card was using the vellum with gold stripes from my stash along with some shimmer trim and gold sequins!

Technique Tuesday – another use for your embossing folders

It’s Tuesday and here’s something you can use your embossing folders for to create some fun and different backgrounds.

Embossing Folders Paint & Ink wm numbered Collage

You can see a card I made using this technique by clicking on this link- You Keep Me Afloat!   It’s always good to have another use for your embossing folders.  Have a great day!

In the chill, it’s nice to think of the beach!

It’s been a little chilly over here in MD and we saw our first snow on Sunday which makes me wish for the beach! Here’s a fun card using paper layering and simple Cricut cut-outs!

SITA Card wm

I grabbed some Sapphire and Desert Sand papers to create the front of the card.  I was hoping to have it look like the waves coming in on a beach.  The images are cut out of the Cricut Artistry Cartridge *Love*!  The images work with this stamp set:

D1684 Beach Daysz3167 Artisty

I use this method for helping me be more accurate on how I center my stamping on Cricut images:

Stamping Cricut cuts wm

Here you can see how I lined up the ball:

SITA Card wm b

I actually used the ball to hold the front of the card shut by having the sentiment stamp slip under the ball:

SITA Card wm a

On the inside of the card, I put this absolutely adorable crab (I love in Maryland and crabs are a big thing here) inside the card with the sentiment and a starfish:

See how cute this crab is:

I also used the awesome Regatta paper pack:

Everything to create this is a must have for beach cards and layouts!!

Creepy Treats Shaker Card

This little stamp set B1488 Pumpkin Chevron, has this super cute candy jar on it and I thought it would make a great little shaker.

B1488 Pumpkin ChevronHere’s how you make a shaker:

How to Make a Shaker with typeCollage

Here’s the card I made and I mounted the shaker on it.  “Creepy Treats” comes from D1669 Tasty Terrors.

Creep Treats Shaker wm

I fussy cut the little candy corns and made them look like they were falling out.  They are colored with our ShinHan Touch Markers.

CT Shaker a wm

I used the quatrefoil embossing folder on the slate panel for textures.  Dry embossing adds so much more to a card.

CT shaker b wm

“Creepy Treats” is from this fun Halloween treat set:

CT Shaker c wm

You can see the white beads to create the  noise along with the prisma glitter.  I  “Wink-a-Stella”-ed the glass jar parts that were not cut out.   I also used some black glitter to make it more fun and hide the candy corns which are stamped inside, on the back panel.

CT Shaker d wm

When you tip up the card, the black glitter goes down and you can see the candy corn! Super fun.  =)  Thanks for stopping by.

Peace and Joy

I had a customer ask to learn do do sky backgrounds with sponges and daubers so I created this card, Peace and Joy, for the Come and Play Card Buffet.

Joy and Peace wm

It involves masking by using a circle that you lightly tape down for the moon and sponge around. The mask prevents the ink from getting into areas you don’t want it to.

JP wm 1

You add more ink and go over areas you want to have the darker color; less ink and go lighter when you want it lighter.  Trees are done in Black Archival Ink. I did them in both first and second generation stamping to create depth in the scene.   The sentiment “Peace and Joy” expressed what I wanted about a serene night scene.  It was stamped in Sapphire ink to make it more soft and subtle.

JP wm 2

Inside the card, I stamped the trees and another sentiment.
